Kankakee Welcome Center – Mile Marker 231- I-65 south bound rest stop
Wednesday September 25, 2024: 3:00 pm – 4:40 pm
(2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: explore the wonderful rest stop, with many indoor exhibits and a prairie restoration walk. Additional exhibits along the .5 – 1 mile walking trail)
DEDICATION: 3:00 pm -3:15 pm
Welcome and Pledge of Allegiance – Mariellen Smith – TGCI North West District Director
Brief history of the program and I-65 marker – Chris Seal , TGCI Blue/Gold Star Marker Chairman
Poem and Presentation of Certificate of Appreciation to the IDOT (Indiana Department of Transportation – Jayne Kesler – TGCI President (followed by acceptance remarks of INDOT)
Unveiling of the Blue Star Memorial marker – Jayne Kesler/Mariellen Smith/ Chris Seal/ IDOT representative
3:15-3:30 (enjoy cookies and lemonade/water )
3:30 – 4:40 enjoy the indoor exhibits and .5-1-mile walking prairie restoration
Directions:
From the North take I-65 south to the rest stop
From the South take I-65 north to Lowell exit and turn around going South on I-65 to rest stop.
Plenty of parking!!
Dress comfortably as it could be warm, rain, or cool.
If you want a nice dinner: Fair Oaks is on most people’s drive home
